Achilles Tendonitis occurs when the Achilles tendon which inserts on the back of your heel (Calcaneus) becomes inflamed and sore. Achilles Tendonitis is a condition that can be particularly painful and is prevalent in individuals who participate in running or jumping sports.
– Pain and stiffness in the Achilles region that gets worse during physical activity – Increased stiffness and pain during early morning or night – May be signs of inflammation in the Achilles region – Painful lumps or nodules on the back of the heel/tendon – Pain in the Achilles tendon walking upstairs or after resting
– Overuse
– Increased intensity of activity
– Increased duration of training
– Walking up lots of stairs or hills
– Poor Footwear
– Improper training surfaces
– Not stretching enough after activity or a tight Achilles tendon
– Age
– Biomechanical abnormalities such as flat feet, high arched foot, unusual heel position
– Certain medial diseases may affect the tendon such as diabetes or diseases that require corticosteroid treatments
– Taken certain antibiotics such as fluoroquinolones
– Rest
– Ice
– Activity Modification
